How To Increase Your Readers and Followers On Medium.

Tried and true — this strategy has built my followers to over 4k in 12 months.

Two red apples sit alongside the book on the left hand side (facing you) a large light globe, representing ideas, is central to the image, and ideas are shared using various digital devices.

Using Facebook Medium Groups As A Writer

This is not a link bomb, yet, it is. Let me explain 🤔

I have been a member of numerous Medium writer groups on Facebook and have moderated one in the past.

I am leaving them all except two or three — in terms of sharing my stories and the technical stuff I write about Medium itself. Ones I respect and one I have created for local readers and writings in my own area.

Growing Your Genuine Medium Presence Takes Action.

If you seriously want to grow your Medium presence, you won't do it there. You are more likely to get virtually spammed with links to stories of little interest to you.

What we want are genuine readers and followers who interact with your writing. My strategy is to build an audience by interacting with other writers on Medium itself.

It has built my followers up to 4,300 in twelve months and they are continuing to grow. My statistics from Medium consistently tell me most of my readers and followers come from the platform itself.

A Strategy Is A Plan Of Action With Defined Steps

Step One — first hour.

*Find a popular writer on Medium you already follow.
*Jump into one of their best stories, read it, and comment with integrity.
*Then take an hour to read other comments, have a quick look at the profile of those authors before you read any of their stories, and scan their headlines.

This is not time to read their stories, but to get a feel for their style. It also means means NO copy/paste and NO AI.

Step Two — Second hour.

*Don’t open any stories to clap, even once - there’s a good reason for that - this is not the time to become a fan of that story or the writer — see the story link below.
*Work your way through all their comments and respond to them intelligently. No copy/paste allowed. There will be some comments where you will not necessarily want to interact with that writer. That’s fine, just scroll past them. You are here for quality, not quantity.

*Clap each comment to which you respond — don’t go crazy and claps 50x time for each comment. Vary the claps.
*Follow each writer on whose comment you have left your response.

Step Three — Finish for today.

*Do not spam the thread with your own links
*Add the story itself to a private list so you can check back later to see who has responded to your comment or become a new follower.

Step Four — two or three days later.

From your private list, choose your new followers and responders, to now become a FAN of theirs, by checking out some stories, clapping, and leaving comments for them.

Maximise Your Strategy By Sharing Your Favourite Writers

I guarantee you will get new followers, new readers, new fans of your stories and improve your Medium presence.

In addition, some other Medium writers and myself are deliberately sharing each other's stories outside of Facebook and across the wider networks we share. Especially as Friends of Medium, we are opening up the Universe outside of the platform to encourage new readers for our favourite writers.

Make sure your stories are inviting to readers, both on Medium and across the wider Universe.
