How I Uncovered A Link Bomb Strategy on Facebook
Bragging on Medium about getting followers got him banned
A screen shot by a Moderator in a Facebook group, showing how the member was link bombing up to 64 times in a single day to get traction on Medium.
It is a hard night’s day today!
I am a moderator in a large group of writers for Medium on Facebook (11k members) and I was up until 5am, working out the spamming strategy of a new member.
He had only been in the group since early January, but got under my skin when he posted a link to his own story under mine.
Totally irrelevant topic.
No interaction. Didn't even like my post, no claps for it, didn't indicate that he even knew I was alive!
So, I decided to investigate his Facebook behaviour. WOW!!
I have posted an image of his link bombing 💣 in the past 30 days!
64 on a single day in March
39 yesterday, until I caught on
And huge numbers all through the weeks, just bombing 💣 everyone else's posts .
The real shame about this is that he writes good stuff. Very good stuff
Now, he is boasting about his strategy on Medium itself and how he got to 1000 followers in such a short time.
He is banned from our group. I have banned him.
He has been moderated quite a few times, but no other Moderator saw fit to write WHY his comments on other Members’ posts were being removed.
I have done so. If you take on the role of moderation, you have to be prepared to speak up and take action.
Incidentally, he posts on Facebook under a different name from his Medium name as well.
